To Nurture from 0-2 Years Old: Our Educators are Here to Help

Every point of your child's life is accompanied by a brand new journey. From navigating the different ages, to different stages like nursery to infancy.
Here at Oak Tree Learning Centre, we aim to nurture every child through their growth journey. We want to ensure that every child develops the skill sets that they need.

Age 0-The Sensory World

During this stage, the child begins to learn about the world through various sensory experiences. From seeing new environments, all the way to tasting foods that are unfamiliar to them. It's a key part of their overall cognitive and brain development. To assist in this stage, our educators provide a secure and engaging environment to them routinely.

Age 1-The Developing World

Once the child is 12 months of age, they start to develop independence across many parts of life. In particular, this applies to them beginning to interact with other children. From gradually building friendships, to sharing items like toys with their peers. We encourage this play and interaction with peers through routine activities like play-time.

Age 2-The Identity World

When the child is given all the resources, activities and interacted with peers, they've developed a sense of identity. This means that they'll feel more confident going into the world in pursuit of independence. At Oak Tree Learning Centre, we honour this with confidence-building activities. This ranges from story-telling for language development, to self-help like learning to make small choices.

How We Nurture Your Child through Nutrition: The 0-2 Year Meal Plan

Beyond one-on-one care and support, we ensure to provide a nutrient-dense meal plan. Given that the right diet is essential at this age. We also work closely with the parents to provide the food they need. For example, we won't introduce any solids unless advised by the parents to do so.

  • Babies are fed breast milk or formula exclusively, as their primary source of nutrition.
  • No solid foods are introduced during this period; breast milk or formula provides all the essential nutrients for growth and development.
  • Feeding is done on demand, ensuring babies receive the nourishment they need at the right times.

  • Introduce pureed foods such as seasonal vegetables, fruits and rice cereal.
  • Babies continue to receive breast milk or formula alongside solid foods to ensure balanced nutrition.
  • Meals are carefully prepared to meet the nutritional needs of infants, supporting growth, development, and a healthy immune system.

  • Solid meals: Served at structured times during the day.
  • Munch and Move approved diet: Based on the Australian dietary guidelines, such as Greek yoghurt, wholemeal toast with baked beans, and other balanced options.
  • Breast milk or formula may still be offered, depending on the child’s needs, alongside solid foods.
  • Focus on encouraging healthy eating habits, social interaction at mealtimes, and the development of motor skills.
*Please note that the above is a general overview of our meals served daily. For children with allergies, or other food intolerances, they are accommodated and served food in a red bowl. We also accommodate those with lifestyle choices, e.g vegetarian.

A Typical Day

Your Baby's Daily Rhythm at Oak Tree

7:00 am – Arrival
Warm welcome & settling in
Your baby arrives at a warm greeting from their primary educator. You share any notes about their night, sleep or meals. This morning's handover shapes the whole day.
Before 8:00 am
Breakfast for early arrivals
Babies arriving before 8 am are offered breakfast, whether milk feeds or solids, depending on age and stage. A warm, unhurried start to the morning.
Morning play, exploration & learning
Sensory play, tummy time, music, art, books and social interaction. Guided by what each baby is showing interest in that morning, never a fixed lesson plan.
On demand:
Milk feeds & morning tea
Milk feeds follow each baby's individual schedule. Morning tea is served mid-morning for older babies transitioning to solids.
When tired:
Rest & sleep β€” on cue
Babies rest when they show signs of tiredness, not based on a clock. Safe sleeping practices are followed, with exact sleep times and recorded in the Daily Register.
Midday:
Lunch
A freshly cooked, nutritious lunch, pureed for younger babies, textured for older ones. All dietary needs and allergies catered for.
Afternoon:
Afternoon activities & outdoor time
Gentle outdoor play, fresh air, social play and more creative exploration. Afternoon tea is served mid-session.

Common questions

Questions parents ask about the Nursery

We accept babies from 8 weeks to approximately 2 years of age in our Nursery program. Please contact us to discuss your baby's specific start date and age. We are happy to talk through timing, settling and what to expect at each stage.

No β€” babies in our Nursery sleep on demand, following their individual rhythm rather than a fixed group timetable. We follow your baby's cues and the routine they have at home as closely as possible. Every sleep is recorded with exact start and end times in the Daily Register, available for you at pick-up and in your daily email. All sleeps follow SIDS & Kids safe sleeping guidelines.

Every afternoon, you receive a daily email with a summary of your baby's day about feeds, sleeps, activities, nappy changes and photos. The Daily Register in the Nursery room records everything in real time throughout the day and is available for you to review at pick-up. Your baby's room leader will also give you a personal verbal update every afternoon. You will never be left wondering how your baby's day went.

All food allergies and dietary requirements are documented in detail at enrolment. Your baby will receive a freshly prepared meal that meets their specific dietary needs.

Yes β€” absolutely. Dummies, comfort toys, special blankets and any other settling items from home are welcome and actively encouraged, especially in the early weeks of settling. Please label every item clearly with your baby's full name.

Yes β€” this is something we genuinely prioritise. Before your baby starts, we will have a detailed conversation about their home routine, especially feeding times and volumes, sleep schedule, settling cues, preferred positions, comfort items and anything else that matters to your baby. We mirror your home routine as closely as possible so the centre feels familiar and safe.
